Don’t Cry

Wednesday, March 8th, 2006

I don’t claim to know a lot about politics or psychology but the two subjects fascinate me to no end. A good part of my day is spent combing through various RSS feeds and catching up on “what’s happening” in the world that surrounds me. My point being, I get a lot of information and read a lot of “news” so there’s not much that surprises me out there but every now and again I still find myself stumped. Like now.

News all over The Wire is letting me know that Tom DeLay won the GOP primary in his district by what looks like at this time to be about sixty-one percent. That’s a pretty decisive victory for somebody that is currently embroiled in criminal charges of conspiracy to violate election laws. Somebody that resigned his post as House Majority Leader because he was too close to Jack Abramoff.

What does this say about the voting public in DeLay’s district? What does this say about voters in general? Is our country on some weird path where we don’t care about the actions of our leaders but instead blindly follow the rhetoric that they give us? DeLay’s recent victory leads me to believe that, yes, indeed, the “War against Terrorism” is far more important to voters of this country than the actual facts of their leaders.

God help us all.

Natalie Raps - Update

Looks like NBC sent a nastgram to YouTube and are now forcing you to view the video from their own page. This means that the link in my other post about this is dead.

Here’s my problem with this: It doesn’t work for me. I’m on a Mac using Firefox and it just doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to. I’m sure I’m not alone in this frustration. The clowns at NBC are shutting me out because they feel that their property has been stolen. Instead of sending nastygrams to YouTube they should be sending roses and fruitbaskets.

Why don’t the brain-surgeons at NBC realize that their show hasn’t been funny in at least a decade? The ONLY thing that is keeping me coming back to SNL is the hope that there’s another video by the Lonely Island crew and I feel disappointed when there isn’t one. Robert Smigel? GMAFB. NBC should be on their knees thanking the people that took the time to “pirate” their work to share with others, thereby broadening NBC’s audience without any cost to NBC except for having to deal with free exposure.

So here’s what happens now. I will most likely miss the next few SNLs because of my schedule. Ordinarily I would just hop over to YouTube and catch up on what I missed and then resume watching the show when I could. Now that I know the content that I want is not available to me except for one place where it doesn’t work I will miss the videos entirely and NBC has just lost another viewer. Good riddance fellas, Will and Grace stopped being funny two weeks after it started.

I know you watched, everyone does. Don’t worry about it, it will give you something to talk about at work tomorrow. I was going to make some comments but Wheaton pretty much says everything that I have to say. Especially about Ang Lee not thanking his actors. For shame Ang, for shame.

I was surprised that Crash got best picture. For some reason I thought it would be something else. Crash was a fine film I just thought it would be…hmm, maybe Capote or Syriana or something. No worries though, it’s not like I had money riding on it. Not much anyway.

Busy week ahead and it’s supposed to rain for the next two days. It’s raining now but I don’t mind. I have the window in the kitchen (where my desk is) cracked open a bit and the sound of rain and cars on wet tarmac is relaxing.

Natalie Portman - Film star, out of control rap star

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

The Lonely Island guys did another video on SNL, this time with host Natalie Portman. This video is even funnier than the Lazy Sunday video I wrote about. In this video we learn about what a day in the life of Natalie Portman is like and what she has to say to kids that see her as a rolemodel. Totally unexpected and by far the funniest thing that was on SNL last night. If you have broadband then you can watch the video at YouTube. If you don’t have broadband then you’re screwed.

The article that I was working on was purchased, along with a couple of my photographs. You can read it over at SFTravel.com

Woo-hoo! I hope I get to do more of these little articles, I had fun doing this one and it got me out of the house for awhile.
