Creative Commons Salon
Well, I’m back home now. I was going to do some live coverage but there wasn’t anything interesting enough to warrant that.
I was a bit miffed that things didn’t start until 7 pm when it was advertised to start at 6. For the first hour I just sat there with a beer and spoke to a couple passersby.
Some guy from some web site was the first presenter and he didn’t even have a presentation. Instead, he asked questions from the audience on how to make his product better. Frankly, I was expecting something a bit more. The second guy was more entertaining but he didn’t have anything to say either. I left before the last presenter went.
I’m not sure what I expected but it was kind of a bust for me. There was a room full of people so odds are that someone got something out of the whole mess. Maybe it was just an excuse to gather a bunch of people and drink, I’m fine with that.

What is your feeling on “weblog?”

As the second guy, thanks for the complement. I think.
A couple of things:
– this was the first CC Salon. these things take time to gain legs.
– Josh’s presentation (#1), while he didn’t cover much ground on FireAnt as may have been expected, he did open a can of worms that needed opening. it’s just that a discussion on making CC better needs more than a 15 minute slot.
Anyway, thanks for coming out. I hope you’ll give it a try again. The social aspect of it is have the fun, I think.

Eddie, I completely agree with you. I knew going in that it was the first salon and that I shouldn’t have any preconceived notions about what was going to happen.
I also mis-spoke when I said that you didn’t have anything interesting to say. I appreciated your concern of how to inform users about the specific CC license that may be attached to a video and I agree that their is no ’standard’ way of doing this. Hopefully this and other issues will be worked out in future salons, which I do plan on attending.
Didn’t mean to come down so hard on everyone…
